Year 6

Welcome to Year 6, we have an exciting half term ahead and a full curriculum of activities planned. Our main ‘Quests’ this half term will be History, Geography, RE and Science. The children will be given many opportunities to further develop their knowledge and gain a better understanding of these areas of learning. Within the ‘Quests’ there may be workshops, key visitors to school and planned trips to places of interest.

Quests

During the ‘Quests’ we will be reading many engaging texts both in our ‘Quest’ lessons and for enjoyment, as a class read. We hope these texts will ignite imaginations and support our discussions around vocabulary choices and sentence structure. In our Writing lessons, we aim to building on learning from the previous term and begin to develop new writing skills with a focus on developing our confidence when writing for purpose. Reading sessions will develop our skills of inference, retrieving information and using the evidence from a text to justify responses and understanding.

Maths

In Maths we will be mastering place value and the four operations which include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This will also include exploring prime, square and cube numbers.

This term Year 6 will have PE on Thursday. They will have their outdoor PE session with Miss Stevenson and indoor PE session with their class teacher. The children should come into school with their PE kit on and school jumper. If the weather is cold, children can also bring in an additional jumper or hoodie for outdoor activities. Please ensure that you have suitable footwear for indoor and outdoor activities.

Home learning

Home learning will include, weekly spellings, logging summaries of 5 x reading each week and completing Numbots and Times Tables rock Stars. Spelling lists can be found in the ‘Useful Information’ section on the right. Reading at home should be recorded in reading records and brought into school daily.
