Top Tips for Year 4
Quests: Our first curriculum quest this half term will be “What’s that Sound?” This will focus on Poetry, music and art. The children will learn, perform and compose their own poetry. The children will also be composing their own musical piece and using pop art to explore onomatopoeia. The children will also be learning about networks in computing, identifying the difference between the internet, the World Wide Web. search engines, websites and web pages, Throughout our English lessons, we will be consolidating our learning from the previous year. The pupils will be developing their use of descriptive and figurative language, and punctuation.
Maths: Our focus will start with place value, moving onto addition and subtraction as we move through the half term. We will also develop our speed and fluency of our times table recall, in preparation for the Multiplication Table Check (MTC) in June 2024.
PE: This half term all of the Year 4 children will have PE on a Wednesday morning where they will take part in Tag Rugby. In addition, Hazel Class will start their Tuesday morning swimming sessions on 12th September 2023. Lime will have dance on a Thursday afternoon and Maple on a Friday afternoon. On their PE days, Children should come into school with their PE kit on and school jumper.
Reading Books: Reading books and reading records should be brought in every day. Children will read daily and any reading at home should be noted in their reading records. As always, the children are responsible for changing their own books and ensuring that quizzes are completed in class. They will be given plenty of opportunities to change their reading books.
Home learning:
We would like the children to be reading regularly (preferably each day) and practicing their timetables on Times Table Rockstars. Any additional home learning will be sent via Seesaw on a Friday.
