Our approach to Home Learning

At Upton Heath C of E Primary School we aim to nurture children’s interest and enjoyment of learning. Home learning linked to school work can play a significant part in a child’s motivation to continue their learning journey.  Children learn best where there is a successful partnership between parents and carers, the child’s first educators, and the school. When learning at home is linked to current programmes of work it informs parents about learning in school, enabling them to support their child effectively. Home learning should be both an enjoyable and worthwhile part of learning, one that adds value to children’s education, enhancing their academic ability and success in class. Effective home learning enhances, enriches or reinforces learning.

Home-learning is a partnership between the home and school. The school will ensure that any home-learning set is relevant and purposeful. Clear guidance will be given to parents and carers for tasks as and when appropriate. Parents and carers and above all, children, are responsible for their home learning.

Each half term every year group will receive their new Home Learning Grid. They can choose the tasks they want to complete and think of creative ways to continue their learning outside of the classroom. Home learning tasks are marked with a good, very good or excellent stamp and can gain housepoints or even a Head Teacher's Award.
