Welcome to Year 6

Welcome back! We hope that everybody had a very restful and enjoyable couple of weeks off over Christmas and spent lots of quality time with their families! This term promises to be a sprint compared to the Autumn Term, especially with so much to do ahead of us.

We are looking forward to starting our new topic on the Ancient Civilisations and we will continue in maths with Geometry as well as developing reasoning skills through a range of challenges. English is text based for both our longer reading activities and our writing in a range of genres. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home and take the opportunity to discuss their reading with them. The school library is available to them along with the extensive range of texts inside the year 6 class rooms.

Home Learning is usually due each Tuesday. Bug Club is also available to the children to supplement their reading at home. For the coming half term, the children will also need to bring in their PE kits on a Tuesday for our dance lessons with Chloe.

Please make sure your PE kit is in school every week. Outdoor PE will not always be on a set day so it is advisible to have kit in all week. In cold weather, tracksuit bottoms and a jumper/hoodie are a good idea whereas the dark shorts and a plain white t-shirt will be sufficient in the summer and for indoor activities.

Children should remember to bring in their reading book, pencil case and a healthy snack/water bottle. School uniform guidelines should also be followed. Please ensure that all items are clearly labelled.

Thank you from the Year 6 team, Mr Riley and Mr Jones.
