Welcome to Year 5

Welcome back! We are looking forward to all the exciting learning taking place in the Summer Term. This year we have many opportunities to develop our musical skills in particular. We will continue to read and play music during our weekly 'wider opps' music lessons. Throughout the year we will be working hard to learn how to play our different instruments ready for when we have the exciting opportunity of performing with the Halle Orchestra in Manchester.

A huge well done to all of you who took part in 'Young Voices 2018'. We are so proud of you.

General information

Changing reading books:  The children should be changing their own books whenever they finish one, on any day necessary. We will check reading records once a week.  The children do need their reading books and records in their bags every day to allow them to read with an adult whenever possible. Regular opportunities for reading help develop confidence, fluency and have a huge impact upon language and writing skills.

Home Learning:  Home Learning is usually due each Tuesday. There are always additional tasks for the children to complete. Children should practise their times tables daily on Times Tables Rock Stars. They could also consolidate maths learning on MyMaths. Extra reading texts are also available on Bug Club and children should be practising their Year 5/6 spelling which can be found in the back of their home learning books and  reading records.

Please remember that your child will need a bottle of water to have in class.

PE: Please make sure your PE kit is in school every week. It is important that children have appropriate PE kits, including long sleeved top and jogging bottoms (for when it is cold) or t-shirt and shorts (for when it is warmer). It may also be a good idea to add a jumper or hooded top in their bag as the weather gets colder. Everyone is included in 'The Daily Mile' during the day in school. This is part of the curriculum so it is important that your child is able to take part in sensible footware. Thank you.

Forest Schools

Year 5 took part in Forest Schools during the Spring Term.

Please make sure your child comes into school dressed appropriately on the relevant day- non uniform with warm clothing ( layers are important and easy to take off if it is warm). A change of footwear is essential with wellington boots or strong walking boots advised.

General information: Please ensure all your children's belongings are clearly labelled ( especially jumpers and cardigans!). If your child wishes to bring in their own snack, please ensure it is healthy. Children are allowed to bring in water bottles and have regular access to them during the day. Please take the time to look at the lunch choices for the week so that your child is able to decide on what they wish to have. Don't forget to credit your Parentpay account to ensure that there is enough credit.

Thank you from the Year 5 team- Miss Dolz, Miss Barker, Mrs Howie and Mrs Britten.

We are looking forward to working with you and your children.
