Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!  We have an exciting half term planned with a full curriculum including Forest Schools and Swimming lessons.  Our main topic area will be 'Where Land Meets Sea', through which the children will learn about the geographical features of seaside and river areas as well as the history of the seaside.  In English, our text links very nicely to our topic and has a seaside setting.  In Science, we will be investigating rocks and soils.

Take a look at our twitter account @UptonHeathCE and use #Year3UHPS, #HawthornUHPS, #CedarUHPS or #JuniperUHPS to see what we have been up to in class.

General Information

PE: Please make sure your child has both indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day.

It is important that the children have appropriate PE kits including pumps, trainers, long sleeved top and jogging bottoms (for when it is cold) or t-shirt and shorts (when it is warmer outside or for inside PE).  Spare socks are also a very good idea, especially for girls who wear tights to school.

Please ensure that  reading records and reading books are in bags every day to allow children to read to an adult whenever possible.  Reading records will be checked regularly and it is the expectation that your child should show their record to their teacher once a week.  Children change their own reading books in KS2.  A good time for this is first thing in the morning during registration or challenge time.

Children are able to use the school library once a week during lunchtimes.

The half termly grid, will shortly be available to view on the pupil area and on the home learning page of the website.  The expectation is that children complete one task per week and that this task is handed in by Tuesday every week.  Home Learning will be celebrated and shared.

Children will be tested on times tables at the end of Year 4, by which time they are expected to know all times tables up to 12 X 12.  It would be incredibly beneficial for your child to work on times tables at least once a week at home and Rockstar Maths is a fun and effective way to do this.

We teach 3 sessions of spellings during the week in class.  Your child will bring a list of spelling words that have been worked on to learn on Fridays.  The list of Y3/4 common exception words are also attached as a file.  These are the words that the children are expected to know by the end of Year 4.

Your child will need a bottle of water in class every day.
