Welcome to Year One

A very warm welcome back to all of our Year 1 children and parents.

We enjoyed a fantastic Autumn Term and were able to achieve so much together: helping Scaredy Squirrel try new things, writing instructions for (and baking) biscuits, 'saving' our mini-woods and even adventures with Paddington Bear.

How will we top that?

We are really looking forward to an even better Spring Term though.

Thursdays will be our day for PE this term and it will be indoors

(pumps, t-shirt, shorts)

No Forest School for any of the children this half-term.

We may occasionally still have a lesson in the mini-woods though, so it is a good idea to have wellies in school just in case.

New Home Learning grid will be shared soon...

Some top tips for being in Year 1:

Please listen to your child read their book regularly as this will support their confidence, fluency and has a huge impact upon their language and writing skills. Sharing and enjoying books together and reading to your child are equally important. We will be changing reading books on a Monday and Friday. Please ensure that you have signed your child's reading record so their book can be changed.

We will also send out Home Learning books with fun activities to complete. These activities do not need to be completed all at once but your child can choose which order they wish to complete them in. Please send Home Learning books in on a Friday for us to have a look at.

It is a good idea to send your child to school with their full PE kit at the start of a half-term and that it remains in school until a school holiday. This is to make sure they have it for every PE lesson. It is important that the children have appropriate PE kits including long sleeved top and jogging bottoms (for when it is cold) or t-shirt and shorts (when it is warmer). It may also be a good idea to add a jumper or hooded top in their bag as the weather is colder.

Everyone is also included in 'The Daily Mile' during the day in school. This is part of our curriculum so it is important that your child is able to take part in sensible footwear.

General Information:

  • Please ensure all your children's belongings are clearly labelled (especially jumpers and cardigans!)

  • If your child wishes to bring in their own snack, please ensure it is healthy (e.g. raisins)

  • Children are allowed to bring in waterbottles and they have access to these during the day.

  • Your child may bring in a small toy for Golden Time on Friday afternoons (it must be able to fit in their tray!)

Thank you from the Year 1 team- Mrs Brocken, Miss Wild, Mr Johnson, Miss Beavan, Mrs Cummins and Mrs Glover.
